MANDARIN ORANGE AND ALMOND SALAD 
1/2 head iceberg lettuce
1/2 head Romaine
1 c. chopped celery
1 bunch scallions, chopped
1 can (cold) mandarin oranges, drained

DRESSING:

1/2 tsp. salt
Dash of pepper
1/4 c. oil (Crisco)
2 tbsp. sugar
2 tbsp. vinegar

ALMONDS:

1/2 c. sliced almonds
3 tbsp. sugar

Mix almonds and sugar together over medium heat in heavy pan, stirring constantly, until the almonds are coated and sugar is dissolved. Watch for tendency to burn. Cool.
