“TURKEY POT PIE” IS IN:

TURKEY POT PIE
6 tablespoons butter
6 tablespoons flour
2 cups turkey or chicken broth
1 cup milk or heavy cream
salt, to taste
2 cloves garlic, pressed
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
4 cups cubed cooked turkey or chicken
1 lb. frozen peas, carrots and onion mixture
2 Pillsbury pie crusts or 9" home-made

Preheat oven to 425°F.

In a medium saucepan, melt butter over medium-low heat with the pressed garlic cloves. Whisk in the flour and cook for several minutes, stirring occasionally. Gradually stir in the broth until absorbed. Add the milk or cream slowly, stirring constantly so that lumps don't form. Season with salt and pepper. Cook, uncovered, over low heat (low simmer) until the sauce has thickened, stirring occasionally. Allow to cool for at least 30 minutes (may be made a day ahead).

Thaw the frozen peas, carrots and onions for 15 minutes. (Note: If you're unable to find peas, carrots and onion combination, use 12 oz peas and carrots with 1 whole fresh onion, chopped).

Lightly butter or spray with non-stick spray a deep dish pie pan or shallow casserole. Line the bottom of the pie plate or dish with one of the pie crusts. Add cooked cubed turkey and the vegetables. Pour in the gravy mixture. Cover with the upper pie crust and flute or crimp the edges, if desired.

Bake for about 40 minutes or until golden brown.

This recipe won me a first place medal at a family pie contest! I made a turkey the day before, and the only thing I did differently was I sauteed the onion and used corn instead of peas. It was so easy!

I made this on Sunday and it was great! It was easy and everyone loved it. I used frozen peas, minced an onion and sliced up 3 carrots. The carrots were a little crunchy which is how we like them... I give this a 10 !!!

I saute 1/2 c. onion in the butter first, use 1/2 c. heavy cream with 1/2 c. 2% milk, reduce chicken broth to 14 oz. can, 1.5 oz salt, 1/4 tsp. pepper. Precook vegetables in microwave for 1/2 recommended time. Piecrust can be rolled larger if necessary on floured board. Everybody loved it.

i used half chicken broth and half turkey gravy from the night before and used mixed veggies and a little poultry seasoning. I also started making it before i realized i had no pie crust so instead i covered it with mashed potatoes and a little cheese and it was wonderful!

I made this today and all my guests could not stop raving about it. I sent some home with my girlfriend and her husband called me to tell me he has never tasted anything that good.
I did make a few changes: I laid down a layer of wild rice on the bottom. I also added corn with the peas, carrots and onion. When I made the white sauce, I added the onion (to cook them a little) and a cup of my leftover turkey gravy. This is the very BEST Pot Pie I have ever tasted!!!

I used pie crust that you unroll...found in market refrigerator section. Also used butter flavored with garlic & herbs. The sauce was great! I love this site and the help I get! My family is beginning to think I'm enjoying cooking and maybe I just am! LOL

This was delicious. Used some leftover turkey and gravy mixture that I had. Used carrots and peas (frozen) then some diced potatoes and onions that you can find in the refrigerator section. Will be making this again. Great way to use leftovers and very easy.

This was a great recipe! I had so much left over turkey from Thanksgiving and came across this recipe. This was my first pot pie and it turened out great. I used brocolli and calflower instead of peas and orions, was great. I would suggest this to anyone looking for an easy pot pie to make, it was good comfort food for the cold weather. I hope you enjoy and thank you for sharing the recipe!

I'm making it now. I'm using my broth from boiling my turkey and gravy instead of the cream sauce so fingers crossed lol

If pressed to time make your turkey or chicken pot pies and place in aluminum pie plate and freeze. When you have time make up the pie crusts and pry the filling out of pan and place the crust in and being frozen the filling stays in place. Either cook or place back in freezer.

Great recipe I used all canned vegis & added green beans & corn & some poultry seasoning as well. I also had to cook pie for about an hour. Next time I think I will add some potatoes too. Family wants to have this weekly.

Used leftover frozen turkey from Thanksgiving and turned out fantastic, I'm not a garlic fan so I omitted it and added diced potatoes.
