HOMEMADE VEGETABLE SOUP 
1 to 1 1/2 lbs. stew meat, seasoned and browned
3 qts. water
1 tbsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
2 tbsp. parsley leaves
1/3 c. barley
1/4 c. onion
1 1/2 c. potatoes
1/2 c. celery
1 c. turnips
1 c. carrots
2 c. green beans, frozen
1 c. peas, frozen
1 c. lima beans, frozen
1 c. corn, frozen

Cook first 6 ingredients for one hour; add remaining ingredients and cook additional hour. Add 1 to 1 1/2 cups canned tomatoes the last 15 minutes. If you want to use dried parsley flakes instead of fresh, put it in soup when you add the tomatoes.
