GUM DROP CAKE 
4 c. flour
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. cloves
1 3/4 c. sugar
1 1/2 lbs. gum drops
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. lard
1 tsp. baking soda
1 1/2 c. applesauce
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
2 eggs
1 lb. white raisins
1 c. chopped pecans (browned in butter)

Sift flour, spices and salt, divide in half. To one half add gum drops (no black), raisins and browned pecans; mix well. Cream lard and sugar. Add eggs to creamed mixture, beating well after each egg. Dissolve soda in small amount of hot water, add remaining half of dry ingredients alternately with applesauce and soda. Stir in gum drop mixture. Pour into pans. Bake for 2 hours in 300 degree oven. Makes 2 loaves.
