HAMBURGER CHOWDER 
1/2 lb. ground beef
1 c. canned tomatoes, crushed
1/2 c. carrots, diced
1/2 c. celery, diced
1 sm. onion, diced
1 to 2 c. water, broth, V-8 or combination
1 c. potatoes, diced
1 tsp. salt
1/4 to 1/2 tsp. pepper
1/4 c. barley, quick cooking

Brown meat and drain fat. Add liquid, vegetables, barley and seasonings. Cook 1 hour. Check seasoning. Serve with bread and salad for a well rounded meal. Top with grated cheese or Parmesan. Can be made in a slow cooker. Increase cooking time accordingly.
