FARMER'S CAKE 
6 eggs
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 1/2 c. flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. lemon flavoring

Filling:

1 pt. water
1 c. sugar
lump of butter
3 tbsp. cornstarch

Mix eggs and sugar until creamy. Then mix in by hand the flour, baking powder and lemon flavoring. Pour into 2 (8-inch) round cake pans and bake at 350°F for 25 minutes. While cake is cooling, boil together water, sugar and butter. Dissolve cornstarch in 1/4 cup cold water and add to filling mixture. Stir until thick and clear. Remove from heat and flavor with a drop of lemon flavoring. Split cake into layers and fill.
