FARMERS FRUIT CAKE 
2 c. dried apples, packed tightly
2 c. molasses
2 c. raisins
1 scant tsp. each cloves, allspice, cinnamon, nutmeg
1 1/2 c. shortening
2 c. sugar
1 c. milk
4 eggs
5 c. flour
4 tsp. baking powder

Soak apples overnight in water, drain and chop finely. Simmer in molasses until tender. Add raisins and spices, butter, sugar, milk and eggs. Mix all together and add flour sifted with baking powder.

Fill prepared loaf or tube cake pans about 3/4 full, crimp foil over top and bake in a slow oven as for any fruit cake. Remove foil after 1 hour and let brown.

For a decorative touch, pecan halves, candied cherries and almonds may be placed in the bottom of the greased brown paper lined pans.
