SAVORY APPLE BREAD 
1 (about 1/2 lb.) Golden Delicious apples, pared, cored & diced
1/2 c. diced onion
2 tbsp. butter, divided
1 (16 oz.) pkg. hot roll mix
1 c. grated cheddar cheese
2 tbsp. diced red pepper
1 tbsp. caraway seeds
1 c. hot water
1 egg

Saute apple and onion in 1 tablespoon butter until tender; cool. In large bowl, combine flour mixture and yeast from roll mix; add cheese, red pepper and caraway seeds. Stir in water, apple mixture, egg and remaining batter until dough pulls away from sides of bowl. Turn dough onto lightly floured surface, knead 5 minutes or until smooth. Cover dough with bowl; let rest 5 minutes.

Shape and place in greased 6 cup round baking dish. Score top with sharp knife; if desired. Let rise 30 minutes.

Bake at 375 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes or until golden. Brush top with butter, if desired. Makes 1 loaf.
