DIXIE'S SKY HIGH BISCUITS | |
If you have never tackled a baking powder biscuit like the ones grandma used to make - try your luck with these - you'll be glad you did. They are surprisingly fluffy and sky-high. 3 c. all-purpose flour 4 1/2 tsp. baking powder 2 tbsp. granulated sugar 1/2 tsp. salt 3/4 tsp. cream of tartar 3/4 c. butter 1 egg, beaten 1 c. milk Combine the first 5 ingredients. Cut in the butter until mixture is coarse and crumbly (resembles a pie crust dough, if you know what that is supposed to look like). Add the beaten egg and milk, stirring quickly and until just mixed. On a lightly floured bread board, knead briefly. Roll (or pat with heel of hands) to about a 1 inch thickness. Cut the biscuits with a round biscuit cutter. Place on cookie sheet. Bake in preheated 425 degree oven for 12-15 minutes. |
