GRANDMOTHER'S NAVY BEAN SOUP 
1 lb. white navy beans
8 c. water
1 smoked ham end
1 med. onion, finely chopped
1 tsp. salt
Black pepper to taste
Sliced carrots

Wash and soak beans overnight. Drain and place in stew pot or Dutch oven. Add all ingredients to water. Bring to boil and simmer for 3 to 4 hours. Should be thick but add more water if necessary. Good served with crusty bread!
