HILLBILLY FRIED GREEN TOMATOES 
green tomatoes
corn meal
vegetable oil
sugar

Slice tomatoes 1/4-inch thick. Use a large fry pan and heat oil (use enough to fry tomatoes). Dredge tomatoes in corn meal, coating both sides and place in a medium-high heat pan. Fry until bottom turns golden brown and flip over. Use just a pinch of sugar on the top side now (the golden brown side).

When the bottom turns golden brown remove and flip over onto a plate with a paper towel to drain excess oil and use another pinch of sugar (this helps cut down the tartness).

Finish the rest the same way, but be warned... You will have to fight the rest of the household off to have enough for supper.

John - to double the flavor... sprinkle each side of tomato with "Lemon-Pepper"... as you are cooking. I did this as as a "just see" thing - it is wonderful...
