BUTTERMILK FUDGE CAKE 
3 c. sugar
4 eggs
1 c. boiling water
2 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. vanilla
1 c. butter
4 sq. chocolate
1 1/2 c. buttermilk
3 c. all-purpose flour

Break chocolate into boiling water and set aside to dissolve. Cream sugar and shortening and add eggs, one at a time. Stir well after each egg. Stir chocolate until dissolved. Add to creamed mixture. Stir soda with flour. Add dry ingredients alternately with milk to creamed mixture. Add vanilla and bake in three 9 inch pans or 1 large oblong pan. Bake at 350 degrees for about 35 minutes or until done. Cool slightly before removing from pans. Frost with chocolate icing, or serve with whipped cream.
