OLIE BALLEN 
1/4 c. shortening
1 egg
1/2 c. sugar
1 tsp. salt
1 c. raisins
3 cakes yeast, softened in 3 c. lukewarm water

Cream shortening with sugar. Add egg, water and yeast. Mix well. Add raisins, flour and salt. Let rise until double. Form in balls using 1 teaspoon of dough. Drop in hot lard.
