1/2 c. shortening
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. grated lemon rind
1 c. sugar
1 egg, unbeaten
2 tbsp. milk
2 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda

Heat oven to 400 degrees. Blend together shortening, salt, grated lemon rind and sugar. Beat in egg and milk. Stir in flour, baking powder and soda.

Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls on lightly greased baking sheet. Grease bottom of a glass. Dip glass in sugar and flatten each cookie. Sprinkle cookies with nutmeg. Bake 8-10 minutes, until light golden. Cool on a rack. 3 dozen.
