WALNUT CAKE 
1 c. sugar
1/2 c. butter
3 eggs, beaten
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 c. milk
1 1/2 c. flour
1 1/2 c. chopped walnuts
1 tsp. vanilla extract
2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. cloves

SYRUP:

2 c. sugar
1 c. water
1 shot cognac
1/2 lemon
1 stick cinnamon

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Mix sugar and butter then add eggs and milk. When ingredients are well blended, combine flour and baking powder and fold in. At the end add nuts, cinnamon, cloves and vanilla.

Pour into buttered pan and bake for 1 hour. Remove from oven and let cool for 1 hour.

Syrup: Mix sugar and water, cognac, and lemon. Bring all the ingredients to a boil. Let simmer for 5 minutes, then slowly spoon into cooled walnut cake. Let stand for 1 more hour, cut and serve.
