1 c. butter
2 c. brown sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
2 eggs
4 c. flour
1/2 c. nutmeats
1/2 c. dates
Cut up candied fruit (optional)
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. baking soda

Mix and form in roll. Chill and slice thin. Bake at 400 degrees until light tan.

These were "the" Christmas cookies. Colorful candied fruit (red/green) were added for color.
