TRAIN WRECK TOMATOES | |
The recipe was given to me by a terrific cook. 1/2 onion, chopped 1 tbsp. butter 2 (15 oz. ea.) cans stewed tomatoes (Hunts) salt and pepper, to taste cayenne pepper, to taste 1 cup dark brown sugar Sauté chopped onion in butter until soft. Add both cans of stewed tomatoes, salt, pepper and cayenne to taste (about 1/8 to 1/4 of a teaspoon). Add dark brown sugar. Heat on top of stove, over low heat, stirring frequently, for about 1 1/2 to 2 hours. I use a heat diffuser under the saucepan or it can be baked in a 300°F oven for the same time. My family went crazy for this! We have it with ham, pork and fish. Submitted by: Antonina Ferrarri |
