CRISS CROSS SCONE LOAF 
2 c. flour
3 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1/4 c. sugar

Sift above ingredients together. Cut in 1/3 cup shortening until mixture is crumbly. Combine 1 beaten egg and 1/2 to 2/3 cup milk. Add to flour mixture to make soft dough. Turn on lightly floured board and knead for 30 seconds. Roll to 1/4 inch thick rectangle. Brush with melted butter; sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar. Roll like jelly roll, sealing edge. Cut into 14 pieces. Flatten each piece in palm of hand. Arrange pieces on end in a zig-zag fashion in a greased loaf pan. Bake at 400 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes.
