FRIED APPLE PIES
2 c. self-rising flour
1 heaping tbsp. shortening
Water
1 pkg. dried apples
2/3 c. sugar (more if needed)

Add a little water to apples and sugar and cook until tender. Mash, then cool in refrigerator before making pies. Add about 1 heaping tablespoon shortening to flour (less than biscuit dough). Mix with enough tap water to make dough. Knead enough to toughen and pinch off egg-size piece and roll to saucer size pastry. Spoon about 2 tablespoons apples on one side; fold the other side over and crimp with a fork. Fry in a little hot oil until golden brown.
