REFRIED BEANS 
1 (1 lb.) bag pinto beans
1/2 med. chopped onion
8 slices bacon
3 cloves fresh whole garlic, thinly sliced or grated
Water
1/2 c. Crisco shortening
1 level tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. pepper

Wash beans, put in pot with water level 3 inches above beans. Fry bacon and cut up in small pieces. Set aside.

Bring water to boil. Add salt, pepper, onion, garlic and bacon. Cook beans, adding small amounts of water until beans are finished. Add Crisco shortening, using a potato masher, mash beans. Cook on top of stove at medium heat, being careful not to burn. Serve hot off the stove.
