STEAK SOUP 
1 1/2 lbs. round steak, cubed
4 tbsp. butter
1 (16 oz.) can cut tomatoes
3 tbsp. beef base
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. pepper
1 c. celery, sliced 1/2 inch
1 c. carrots, sliced 1/2 inch
1 c. chopped onions
1/2 c. soft butter
1 1/4 c. flour
1 jar sliced mushrooms
1 (10 oz.) pkg. frozen mixed vegetables

Brown meat in 4 tablespoons butter. Combine 1/2 cup soft butter and flour. Combine butter and flour mixture with 2 cups hot water. Add 6 cups water to beef and then add the butter, flour, and water mixture, stirring constantly. Add tomatoes, beef base, salt, and pepper to taste. Bring to boil, cover, reduce heat, and cook for 30 minutes. Add celery, carrots, and onions. Simmer until tender. Shortly before serving, add mixed vegetables and mushrooms.
