MAGGIE'S POUND CAKE | |
3 c. sugar 1 c. Crisco 1/2 lb. pure butter 1 tbsp. vanilla 3 c. cake flour 5 eggs 1/2 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1 c. milk Sift dry ingredients together and set aside. Grease and flour 10 inch tube pan. Cream sugar, Crisco, and butter together until fluffy. Add vanilla. Add eggs one at a time beating after each. (Eggs should be room temperature.) Add the dry ingredients and milk alternately beating after each addition. Bake in 10 inch tube pan for 1 hour and 40 minutes at 300 degrees. For chocolate pound cake, add 4 heaping tablespoons cocoa and cream in with the sugar and butter. Also use the tablespoon vanilla in chocolate cake. For lemon pound cake, use one smallest size bottle of lemon flavoring in place of the vanilla. After baking this cake, let it sit in the pan a few minutes and it comes out perfect. NOTE: This makes a large cake. If a smaller size pan is used it may run over during baking. |
