FRENCH APPLE COBBLER 
FILLING:

5 c. peeled, sliced tart apples
3/4 c. sugar
2 tbsp. flour
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tbsp. soft butter

BATTER:

1/2 c. flour
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
2 tbsp. soft butter
1 egg, slightly beaten
Light or whipped cream

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. In medium bowl, combine filling ingredients (except butter). Spoon into a 9"x9" baking dish. Dot apples with butter. In medium bowl, combine batter ingredients. Beat until smooth. Drop batter in 9 portions on apples, spacing evenly. The batter will spread during baking. Bake 35 to 40 minutes or until apples are fork tender and crust is golden brown. Serve warm with cream.
