SPICY BUTTERMILK CAKE 
2 1/2 c. flour
1 lb. sugar
3/4 lb. brown sugar
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
3/4 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
3/4 tsp. Crisco
1 c. buttermilk
3 eggs

Sift flour and both granulated and brown sugar together. Add baking powder, salt, soda and spices. Add Crisco and buttermilk; beat well. Add eggs and beat 2 minutes. Pour into two 9 inch cake pans. Bake 30-35 minutes at 350 degrees. Allow cakes to cool 10 minutes before removing from pans.

ICING:

1 (3 oz.) pkg. cream cheese
2 tbsp. milk
1/4 lb. butter
4 c. powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla

Soften cream cheese at room temperature. Combine all ingredients and beat until light and smooth, fluffy. Spread on cake.
