FRIED GREEN TOMATOES 
6 half ripe or green tomatoes, sliced
1 c. cornmeal
1 c. vegetable shortening
Salt to taste

Put vegetables and shortening in large fry pan, let heat. Add salt to sliced tomatoes, then dip in corn meal and cover both sides with meal mixture. Fry in vegetable oil until brown on both sides. Serves 6.
