MOTHER'S JAPANESE FRUIT CAKE 
1 c. butter
3 c. flour
6 eggs
1 can coconut
4 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. cloves
2 c. sugar
1 c. sweet milk
1 box raisins
1 c. pecans
2 tsp. cinnamon

Cream sugar and butter thoroughly. Beat eggs separately, add yolks. Sift dry ingredients together, adding alternately with milk. Add coconut, nuts and raisins, which have been rolled in flour. Add egg whites last. Bake in 4 layers in moderate oven for about 30 minutes at 350 degrees.

FILLING:

2 c. sugar
1 can coconut
2 oranges
2 lemons
1 1/2 c. boiling water
4 tbsp. flour

Mix sugar and flour. Cut oranges and lemons in small bits, do not use rind. Cook all together until like honey, then add coconut. Cook 2 minutes. When cool, put between layers and on top and sides. Decorate top with pecan halves.
