BAKED ONIONS 
6 very lg. onions, peeled
3 tbsp. butter
1 1/2 c. soft bread crumbs
1 c. Sharp Cheddar cheese, shredded
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. ground ginger

Cover onions with boiling water and cook until onions are barely tender. Drain and cool. With a sharp knife, cut out centers leaving a shell about 1/2 inch thick. Chop onions removed from centers and saute in hot butter. Add bread crumbs and saute until onions are transparent and crumbs are lightly browned. Cool mixture and stir in cheese, salt and ginger. Stuff mixture into onions. Place in shallow baking dish. Bake until tender, 30 to 40 minutes in 350 degree oven.
