POPCORN BALLS | |
6 c. popped corn 1/2 c. molasses 1/2 c. corn syrup 1/2 tbsp. vinegar Cook, stirring now and then so that the mixture will not burn, until a small amount forms a very hard ball (not a soft ball) in cold water. (If you have a candy thermometer, cook to 270 degrees.) Remove mixture from heat, add 1 1/2 tablespoons butter and pour over the salted popcorn. The syrup often acts very queer. Cool a little. Rub butter on your hands to keep syrup from sticking. Pick up small handful of popcorn with syrup on it and make it into a ball. Makes 8 to 10 balls. Wrap into colored tissue paper and hang on tree. |
