BOSTON BROWN BREAD 
1 c. raisins
3/4 c. broken walnuts
3 tbsp. butter
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
2 eggs
1 c. sugar
1 3/4 c. sifted flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla

Put first 4 ingredients in large mixing bowl and pour 1 cup boiling water over all and let stand with a cover over it; set aside. Beat eggs and gradually add sugar. Add vanilla. Sift flour and salt and gradually add to egg mixture. Uncover raisin mixture and combine with egg mixture. Beat until well blended. Use 2 large (28 ounce) tin cans; grease and flour cans well. Pour batter evenly in cans and bake on middle shelf of oven at 350 degrees for 45 minutes. Cool completely on their side. Slice and serve with cream cheese or butter. Wrap remainder in foil and store in refrigerator.
