BASIC MISSOURI MIX
9 c. sifted all purpose flour
1/3 c. double acting baking powder
1 c. plus 2 tbsp. non-fat milk solids (powdered milk)
4 tsp. salt
1 3/4 c. vegetable shortening

Stir baking powder, dry milk, and salt into the sifted flour. Sift all dry ingredients together until well mixed. Cut shortening into flour mixture until all particles of fat are thoroughly coated and mixture resembles coarse cornmeal. Use this as you would the commercial baking mix (Bisquick). Yields 13 cups.

Basic Missouri Mix

 Cathy McCurley (United States) says:
I found my old recipe for Missouri mix that a friend shared with me in 1972. We worked together at a factory in Oklahoma City. I have 3 children and really needed help feeding them meals we could afford and could not afford Bisquick. My children are in their 50's now. I had totally forgotten about all my old recipes, didn't even think about the internet. Lo and behold here it is. Thank you so much!
