LADY BALTIMORE CAKE 
1 c. vegetable shortening
2 c. sugar
3 c. cake flour
3 tsp. baking powder
1 c. milk
5 egg whites
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla

Cream shortening and sugar. Sift flour, salt and baking powder, add to creamed mixture a little at a time with the milk. Beat egg whites until stiff and fold into mixture. Add vanilla. Bake in three 9 inch cake pans, 30 minutes at 350.

LADY BALTIMORE FILLING:

5 egg yolks
1 c. sugar
1 c. sour cream
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. nutmeats

Cook sugar, sour cream and egg yolks together over slow heat until thick. Add vanilla and nutmeats. Cool and spread between layers of cake.

LADY BALTIMORE ICING:

1 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 egg white
3 tbsp. cold water

Mix all together. Beat in a double boiler over hot water for 4 minutes using an electric mixer. (Takes a long beating time without the mixer.)
