MERE' MERE'S FRENCH DOUGHNUTS 
1 c. sugar
2 eggs
2 tbsp. shortening
2 tsp. vanilla
1 c. milk
5 1/2 c. flour
4 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. salt

Cream sugar, shortening and eggs. Add vanilla and milk. Add flour and rest of ingredients, one cup at a time, until 4 cups are used. Then knead and roll in remaining flour. (You should have about 1/4 cup flour left on board.) Roll 1/4 inch thick and cut, deep fry, sprinkle with powdered sugar. Makes 2 to 2 1/2 dozen doughnuts 4 inch square.
