APPLE DUMPLING
6 med. tart juice apples
1/2 c. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tbsp. butter
Syrup (below)
Pastry for 2 crust pie

HOT SYRUP:

1 c. sugar
3 tbsp. butter
2 c. water

HOT SYRUP: Combine sugar, butter, and water. Boil together 3 minutes. Pour syrup over dumplings before baking.

Roll out pastry to 1/8 inch thickness and cut into 7-inch squares. Pare and core apples and place an apple on each square of pastry. Fill cavities of apples with mixture of sugar and cinnamon. Dot with butter. Moisten points of each pastry square and bring points up over apple, overlapping them. Seal well.

Place a little apart in a 9x13 inch baking pan. Pour hot syrup around dumplings. Bake immediately in a hot 425 degree oven for 40-45 minutes until crust is nicely browned and apples are cooked through. Serve warm with milk or ice cream.
