OLD FASHIONED TEA CAKES 
1 c. butter, softened
2 c. sugar
3 eggs
2 tbsp. buttermilk
5 c. all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla

Cream butter, gradually add sugar, beat well. Add eggs, one at a time. Add buttermilk and beat well. Combine flour and soda. Stir into creamed mixture. Stir in vanilla.

Chill dough several hours.

Roll dough about 1/4 inch thickness. Cut with cookie cutter. Place 1 inch apart on a lightly greased cookie sheet. Bake at 400 degrees for 7 or 8 minutes until edges are lightly browned. Yield 4 dozen.
