GERMAN SAND TORTE 
1 tsp. grated lemon rind
1 1/2 tbsp. rum
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. butter, melted
8 eggs
4 egg yolks
1 1/4 c. sugar
1/3 c. blanched almonds
2 c. sifted flour
2 tbsp. melted butter

VANILLA SUGAR:

To make it bury 3 or 4 vanilla beans in a canister containing a pound of confectioners' sugar. After a few days the sugar will have absorbed some of the fragrance. It can be kept almost indefinitely.
