Sift together:

1 1/2 c. flour, sifted
1/2 tsp. salt

Blend together; creaming well:

1/2 c. shortening (half butter may be used)
1/2 c. sugar

1 egg
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. almond extract

Beat well. Blend in dry ingredients gradually; mix thoroughly. Press dough through a cookie press on to ungreased baking sheets. Do not fill cookie press more than 1/2 to 2/3 full. Bake at 400 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes. Makes 6 to 7 dozen cookies. If desired, cookies may be decorated with candied cherries, citron, nuts or colored sugar.
