CHOCOLATE NOUGAT LAYER CAKE 
1/2 c. (1 stick) butter
1 sq. (1 oz.) chocolate
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1/4 tsp. salt
1 egg
1 1/2 c. sour milk
2 c. all-purpose flour
1 rounded tsp. baking soda

Melt butter and chocolate; remove from heat and add sugar, vanilla, salt and egg. Sift dry ingredients and add to mixture alternately with milk, adding baking soda to the last addition of flour. Bake in a 350°F oven for 25 to 35 minutes in 8-inch square layer pans. Ice with Mocha Frosting.

Mocha Frosting:

2 tsp. butter, melted
1 sq. (1 oz.) chocolate
2 c. confectioners' sugar
2 tsp. vanilla
2 tbsp. hot coffee

Melt butter and chocolate. Add sugar, vanilla and hot coffee.
