CARAMEL FROSTING 
3 c. sugar
1/4 c. boiling water
1/2 c. milk
1/2 c. butter
2 tbsp. light corn syrup
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla

Melt 1/4 cup sugar in a heavy skillet, stirring constantly. Add boiling water and stir until dissolved. Combine remaining ingredients except vanilla in a large saucepan and stir in sugar syrup. Cook to soft ball stage and remove from heat. Cool. Beat to spreading consistency and add vanilla. Add several drops of boiling water if needed to spread.
