OATMEAL CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES 
1 1/2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 c. shortening
3/4 c. brown sugar
3/4 c. white sugar
2 eggs
1 tbsp. hot water
1 c. chopped nuts
1 (12 oz.) pkg. chocolate chips
2 c. oatmeal
1 tsp. vanilla flavoring

Add soda and salt to flour. Cream shortening and add both sugars, add hot water. Add dry ingredients to mixture. Add oatmeal, vanilla, nuts and chocolate chips. Drop by 1 teaspoon onto lightly greased cookie sheet. Flatten slightly. Bake at 325 degrees for around 8 minutes. Cool on wire rack. Freezes well. Yield: 100 cookies.
