MOM'S STRAWBERRY JAM CAKE 
1 c. butter
2 c. sugar
3 c. flour
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. allspice
1/2 tsp. red food coloring
1 c. strawberry jam
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 c. buttermilk
4 egg whites
1 tsp. nutmeg
2 tsp. cinnamon
4 egg yolks
1 c. nuts

Cream butter and sugar together. Sift dry ingredients and add a small amount of sugar and butter, then add yolks (well beaten); add jam. Add milk and rest of flour. Beat egg whites and fold in. Add nuts and food coloring. Bake at 350 to 375 degrees, either as layered cake or loaf cake. Mom iced with caramel frosting but I prefer in a loaf - good frozen.
