BAKED APPLE DUMPLINGS 
2 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. sugar
1/4 c. butter
2/3 c. milk
Cored apples
Sugar cinnamon
Nutmeg
Butter

SYRUP BASTED DUMPLINGS:

1 1/2 c. sugar
1 1/2 c. water
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
Few drops red food coloring
3 tbsp. butter

Sift flour; measure and add baking powder, sugar and salt. Sift again. Work in shortening using finger tips or pastry blender. Using a pastry fork, mix in milk do this quickly. Put dough on floured board, lightly roll dough to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut in 4-6 inch squares. On each square place one prepared apple, core cavity with sugar, flavored with cinnamon. Dot with butter. Bring edges of dough to a top knot. Pinch edges tightly; set in a pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 45-60 minutes.

DUMPLINGS: Boil all ingredients but butter for 3 minutes. Add butter. Pour syrup over apples in pan. Baste occasionally as apples are baking.
