1 c. less 2 tbsp. shortening 2 c. sugar 3 c. flour 4 eggs 3 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. salt 1 c. milk or water 1 tsp. vanilla flavoring Cream shortening; gradually add sugar, creaming until light and fluffy. Add egg yolks, beaten until thick and lemon colored and cream thoroughly. Add dry ingredients which have been sifted together, alternately with liquid, beginning and ending with dry ingredients. Add flavoring and cream well. Fold in egg whites beaten stiff but not dry. Pour batter into 2 greased round cake pans and bake at 375 degrees for 25-30 minutes. |
