APPLE UPSIDE DOWN GINGERBREAD 
1/3 c. butter
1/2 c. sugar
1 egg
2/3 c. molasses
2 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. ginger
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. salt
3/4 c. buttermilk
1 1/2 c. pared, chopped apples
2 or 3 pared sliced apples
1/2 c. butter
1 c. brown sugar

Cream butter and sugar, beat in egg add molasses and beat well. Sift together dry ingredients add alternately with buttermilk to creamed mixture, beating well after each addition. Stir in chopped apples and set aside.

In an 8 x 8 square pan melt butter, top with brown sugar and arrange apple slices over sugar. Pour batter over apples. Bake at 350 degrees for 50 minutes. Dollop cake with whipped cream.
