JAM CAKE 
1/2 c. shortening
1 tbsp. baking powder
4 eggs, well beaten
1/4 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 1/2 c. jam
1 c. sugar
3/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. allspice
2 1/2 c. flour
2/3 c. nuts
Raisins or chopped dates (optional)

Mix all ingredients and bake in a 375 degree oven for 45 minutes or until cake tests done.

ICING:

1 1/2 c. brown sugar
1/2 stick butter
1/4 c. milk

Mix all ingredients in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Pour in 2 cups confectioners' sugar and stir until smooth. Spread on jam cake.
