BAKED ONION SOUP 
6 onions - thinly sliced
3 tbsp. butter
2 tsp. sugar
6 c. boiling water
2 beef bouillon cubes
Bread - sliced 1/2 to 1 inch thick
Swiss cheese - sliced thin

Brown onions in butter. Cook 20 minutes until tender. Sprinkle sugar over onions. Add boiling water, bouillon, SALT AND PEPPER. Simmer 10 minutes. Place soup in a Dutch oven. Place a slice of cheese on each piece of bread, one for each person you intend to serve. Push bread into liquid so it is saturated. Pour 1/4 CUP BUTTER over top.

Bake at 375 degrees for 1 hour.
