ITALIAN CREME CAKE 
1 stick butter
1/2 c. Crisco
2 c. sugar
2 c. plain flour
1 c. buttermilk
1 c. nuts
5 egg whites, beaten
5 egg yolks
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. coconut

Cream butter, Crisco and sugar. Add egg yolks and vanilla. Sift flour, add soda. Add to mixture with buttermilk, flour first and last. Stir in nuts and coconut, fold in egg whites. Bake in 3 (9 inch) cake pans at 350 degrees for 20 minutes or until done.

ICING:

1 (8 oz.) pkg. cream cheese, room temperature
1/2 c. Crisco
1 tsp. vanilla
1 box confectioners sugar

Mix all ingredients, (if too thick, add milk). Spread between layers, on top and sides of cake.
