NUT BREAD | |
1 cake yeast 1 stick or 1/2 c. butter 1/2 c. sugar 2 c. milk 6 c. flour 1/4 tsp. salt 3 egg yolks 1 tsp. vanilla Dissolve yeast in 1/2 cup warm milk with 1/4 teaspoon sugar for 10 minutes. Sift flour with salt. Cream butter. Add sugar, cream well. Add egg yolks one at a time with yeast mixture. Let rise in warm place for about 2 hours. Roll thin about 1/4" thick. Add filling, let raise about 30 minutes. You may brush top with beaten egg white to enhance browning when baking. NUT FILLING: 2 lbs. finely ground walnuts 1/2 c. butter 1/2 tsp. salt 2 tsp. vanilla 1/2 c. brown sugar 1 tsp. warm milk (or more to soften nuts) Add ingredients to nuts. Let stand about an hour. This filling is rolled inside bread. Bake on cookie sheet at 375 degrees for 40 to 45 minutes. |
