MOLASSES STACK CAKE 
3/4 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1 c. molasses
3 eggs
1 c. buttermilk
1 tbsp. ginger
1 tbsp. vanilla
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
3 1/2 c. flour, or less

Cream the shortening and sugar. Add molasses and milk. Mix well. Add eggs one at a time. Beat well. Add sifted dry ingredients. Beat well until smooth. Put mixture in greased and floured pan about 3/8 inch deep. Bake at 350 for 18 to 20 minutes. Cool and spread apple butter between layers. Best if baked in a cast iron skillet.
