GRANDMA'S HOMEMADE BREAD | |
5 lbs. flour 2 tsp. salt 3-4 handfuls of sugar 1 stick melted butter Warm water 1 cake yeast In BIG pan combine flour, salt and sugar. In 2 quart saucepan mix, butter, fill pan to top with warm water (add to the butter and lukewarm water mixture) 1 cake of yeast (break apart). Let sit for 5 minutes. Then make sure all dissolved. Add liquid to dry mixture, mix, add more flour and/or water, lukewarm, until sticks together in good mixture or consistency. Cover pan and let rise in warm place until doubled in size. Punch down and work and put in loaf pans (6). Poke with fork each loaf 4-5 times. Cover pans and let rise until dough is up over pan tops. Bake 350 degrees for 1 hour until brown. Brush with butter. |
