LAZY BEEF CASSEROLE | |
1 lb. lean beef chuck, cut into 1 1/2" cubes 1/2 c. red wine (I use Claret Reeses from A&P) 1 (10 1/2 oz.) can Campbell beef consomme, undiluted 3/4 tsp. salt 1/8 tsp. pepper 1 med. onion, chopped 1/4 c. fine dry bread crumbs 1/4 c. all-purpose flour I use round steak and cut it into narrow strips. Preheat oven to 300 degrees. Put meat in a casserole with the wine, consomme, seasonings and onion. Mix flour and bread crumbs and stir this into liquid. Cover and bake about 3 hours or lower the temperature and cook for a longer period of time. This is great over broad noodles or rice. You can cook this in the crock pot for approximately 8 1/2 hours or until meat is tender. Cook on high for the first hour and on low for the remaining time. |
